Artec Studio 17

What’s new in Artec Studio 17

Datum alignment for scan-to-CAD

As a rule of metrology, even when your scan is an impeccable digital twin of a part or object, if it isn’t properly aligned with its corresponding CAD reference model, any variances that show up can be unreliable due to misalignment. With Datum alignment, all it takes is a few clicks to fully align your meshes and CAD models using key geometric features.

Enhanced targets support for metrology

If your scanning workflow requires the use of reference objects for data registration such as circular targets, spheres, or checkerboards, you now have better manual control over these objects in Artec Studio. See them in 3D as part of your workspace, choose spheres or circular targets for registration, measure the distance between them, identify which are out of place or missing, and exclude them from registration. In addition, you can now import multiple reference target clouds into the workspace and choose which ones to use for tracking.

Auto surfacing

Convert complex organic shapes into solid CAD models in one click with the new Auto Surface feature. Facilitate reverse engineering of complex geometries and create referential CAD surfaces for in-depth RE workflows in third-party CAD software.

Boolean operations

Modify your models with CAD entities and meshes, using industry-standard boolean operations: Union, Subtract, and Intersect. Build molds, create complex shapes, fine-tune meshes to match the design intent, and more.

Independent CAD shapes

The new setting allows you to easily create, resize, and reposition primitive solid shapes into any part of your mesh, unlike in the previous version. Just select the primitive you want to add, including the new cube shape (box), and that’s it – no need to specify the required area for fitting.

Constraints 2.0

Added convenience when working with constraints for CAD primitives. Artec Studio now keeps a history of the conditions and relations specified for each primitive, so you can save, edit, and refit them anytime – even outside the Construct panel. In addition, it allows you to base new constraints on the ones you imposed in previous sessions.

Mesh splitting for 3D printing

For AM professionals, preparing meshes for 3D printing is easier than ever thanks to the new Split by plane feature. This allows you to quickly and precisely break your mesh into manageable chunks, using a pre-fitted plane, for further 3D printing.

Improved Segment Brush

An update to our most frequently used selection tool means you can now change the size of the selected region dynamically with the Segmentation sensitivity slider. Simply mark the area you’d like to construct the CAD primitive in, and adjust the degree of expansion area with the slider.

Perfect your 3D model texture for CGI

Brand-new photo viewing mode, automatic segmentation of photos, and more updates for the scanning + photo-texturing workflow.

Expedite your entire workflow

A broad range of UI and UX improvements to make your scanning and processing so much better.

Optimize reconstruction speed for your GPU

This new add-on allows you to test your computer’s graphic card and fine-tune HD Mode settings so they best fit your particular specs. As a result, you can expect much faster reconstruction of HD data from your Leo or Eva than using default settings.

Erase via Object selection

Your mesh editing process is now even faster thanks to the new Eraser selection mode “Object selection.” Instantly remove any unwanted elements from the scene by simply selecting separate parts of the mesh and removing them.

Exclude faulty frames from Fusion

In our updated scan processing algorithm, any incorrectly registered frames can be excluded from processing. Avoid unwanted objects and artifacts on a model, and save time on further post-processing and mesh editing.

10% faster, 30% less memory-intensive processing

Thanks to our recent Fusion algorithm update, your processing workflow is now 10% faster and requires 30% less computer RAM.

New Hole Filling tool

An updated Hole Filling algorithm lets you create smooth patches over any missing areas on a model, and faster, too. You’ll now be able to choose between Flat and Smooth types of hole filling to restore the missing surfaces more precisely.

Upload meshes to Artec Cloud

Upload directly to Artec Cloud to easily share meshes created in Artec Studio with anyone – no Artec Cloud account required. You’ll get a direct shareable link with everything in one place – all without leaving the project or switching between the two applications.

Quickly restore unsaved projects

If, for any reason, your Artec Studio project crashes, there’s no need to worry. The software will suggest that you restore it upon the next start, even if you have unsaved changes. No data gets lost!

Customize your workspace

Set up your personal Artec Studio workspace by arranging panels in a layout that works best for you. All panels can now be detached from the main window, so you can simply click and drag to any part of the workspace.

Upload multiple Artec Leo projects at once

Working with more than one Leo project? You can now import several projects scanned with Artec Leo into Artec Studio, so you can easily work and switch between them in your workspace.
